CUSTOM:
For many people, Matanda represents a new way of looking at functional art and as such, individuals often request pieces that are even more personal. With a variety of woods and finishes and an unending resource of ideas, Vic is available to create custom pieces which reflect your personal aesthetic or artistic bend. Feel free to contact Vic directly to discuss how he can design a unique piece which represents your own artistic vision.

HERITAGE:
In an extension of custom work, it is gratifying to take a piece of wood that has special meaning for a client and produce a piece or pieces that will preserve a memory or extend the significance of an artifact that may otherwise be lost or discarded. Vic has a name for this special category - Heritage Work. The clients and families involved have expressed contentment, comfort and satisfaction in finding this way to connect with their own history. Examples of Matanda Heritage pieces include:
  • Boards from the barn on a family farm, held for a hundred years but recently sold, became a hope chest to be handed from generation to generation and writing instruments for fourteen family members.

  • The flood-damaged rocking chair of a favorite great-aunt was resurrected as keepsake boxes for three siblings separated geographically but not emotionally.

  • A piece of cypress brought home from Italy after World War II and later damaged by fire was rescued from the attic to become a matched pen/pencil desk set for the soldier’s grandson.

  • Oak hull timbers from the USS Constitution, "Old Ironsides," became writing instruments, complete with certificates of authenticity, for a select few with strong maritime or naval heritage.
